Affordable Green Season Safari in Tanzania (8 days)

Safari: Tanzania

Affordable Green Season Safari in Tanzania (8 days)

From Lake Manyara to the Ngorogoro Crater and the Serengeti, this Tanzania safari offers real value and shows off the burgeoning green world of Tanzania's rainy season migration

If you love space, peace and quiet, then the rainy season might be a good time for you to go on safari. Tanzania's wet season in April and May is a time when everything is either in flower, about to give birth or has cubs, pups, calves or fawns. This makes for a scenic and interesting safari. There's more water and you have to work a little harder for your sightings, but East Africa's short grass and open plains are the perfect wet season safari destination. It's good value too: your lodges and camps will cost you almost half what they would in peak season a few months later. You'll need a sense of humour and perhaps a slightly longer lens.

Estimated cost per person for a 8 -day safari like this, depending on the season. Can be customised based on your budget and requirements.
International flights not included.

Costing tip: When comparing with other companies, remember most of them only show the low season rate. How pricing works >

What to Expect on This Safari

This popular itinerary can be customised to match your budget and travel dates by adding/removing a few days or selecting different lodges

Arusha, your arrival

When you arrive at Kilimanjaro you'll be met and transferred to Arusha town, the safari hub of Tanzania, to spend the night before starting your wet season safari in the morning. Overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge, with a late dinner and breakfast included.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Transport: Included

Monduli to Manyara's flamingo

On the first day, you'll go in search of cats, elephant and flamingo at Lake Manyara National Park. Manyara is very pretty in the wet season and because the lake is fuller you can get closer to flamingo and pelican. Overnight at Lake Manyara Tree Lodge, with your meals, walk and game drive included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Transport: Included

To Crater Lodge, the most famous lodge in Tanzania

You'll spend the morning in Lake Manyara National Park looking for tree-climbing lions before driving up to the rim of Ngorongoro Crater in time for lunch. Enjoy lunch with one of the best views on the continent, especially in the wet season, and go on an afternoon game drive in the Crater. Overnight at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, with your meals and drives included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Transport: Included

Crater, Masai and onwards to lake Ndutu

You'll make an early morning start to spend time on the Crater floor again. Later you'll enjoy a picnic lunch on the Serengeti plains before visiting a Maasai village on the way to the Ndutu area. Overnight at Serengeti Safari Camp , with your meals included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Transport: Included

Slip sliding away

Spend another full day exploring the Ndutu plains, enjoying flamingo, cheetah and plains game. There might even be some lingering migratory animals on the plains, and very well-fed cats sleeping the day away. Overnight again at Serengeti Safari Camp, with meals included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Transport: Included

The front-end of the migration

You'll explore the Moru area  – the best game viewing area in the Serengeti during April and May (rainy season), and where we expect the migration to be. The roads will be wet and you'll slip and slide through the scores of zebra and wildebeest herds as they gather at Moru. Overnight at Serengeti Pioneer Camp, with your meals and drinks included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks
Transport: Included

Spectacular migration all to yourself

Another full day in the Serengeti to spend with the migration. The herds will be on the move by now and they could be at a completely different place from where they were the evening before. You can stop at the Maasai paintings and Ngong rock, reminding you of the Maasai people’s presence in the Serengeti up to the late 1950s. Overnight at Serengeti Pioneer Camp, with your meals and drinks included.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks
Transport: Included

Fly Home

Drive to Seronera airstrip for your flight back to Arusha and then transfer to Kilimanjaro International for your flight home.
