Tanzania Photographic Safaris

Africa's best authentic tailor-made safaris

Whether you’re a novice or an experienced photographer, a Tanzania photographic safari will bring you to incredible sightings to capture. You’ll be spoilt for choice between the stunning landscapes and the myriad of wildlife.

Why Should You Go on a Photographic Safari in Tanzania?

Wildlife and Landscape Photography

Tanzania offers incredible photographic moments, as it has both spectacular environments and wildlife.

From the flamingos congregating in Lake Manyara to the incredible views from the Ngorongoro Crater Rim, there are so many opportunities to capture spectacular moments.

The Great Migration

One of the most incredible natural events in the world takes place in Tanzania: the Great Migration, when massive wildebeest herds travel the plains.

Capture stunning moments during this event, including dramatic predator-prey interactions and breathtaking sunsets.

For Novices and Experienced Photographers

Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a professional, a photographic safari in Tanzania will be awe-inspiring thanks to the majestic landscapes and wide array of wildlife.

Knowledgeable Guides

Unlike regular Tanzania safaris, photographic safaris cater specifically to the needs of photographers. Guides will understand that you may need more time and patience than usual to get the desired shot and will position vehicles for the best view.

Combine Photography With Wildlife Viewing

Tanzania is one of the best safari destinations in the world due to its wildlife, which also makes it ideal for photographic safaris. During this experience, you’ll be able to spot the Big Five as well as giraffes, hippos, zebras, cheetahs, and hyenas.

Access Remote Areas

A photographic safari in Tanzania will take you to areas with fewer tourist crowds, providing you with exclusive photo opportunities. Get a front-row seat to a variety of prime animal viewings.

Hone Your Skills

There’s no better way to build your wildlife portfolio and hone your skills than by going on a photographic safari. Due to Tanzania’s large wildlife population, you’ll be able to capture a wide variety of species.

Best Destinations for a Photographic Safari in Tanzania

Serengeti National Park

Home of the Big Five, the Serengeti is also world-famous for the annual Great Migration and its abundance of big cats, with all three – lions, cheetahs, and leopards – easily seen. A safari here is the ideal place to capture predator-prey dynamics.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unflooded, unbroken caldera in the world and home to a high concentration of wildlife, making a photographic safari a thrilling experience. The Big Five are all located here, and it’s one of the best places to see the endangered black rhino.

Lake Manyara National Park

While Lake Manyara is one of Tanzania’s smaller parks, it’s a unique place to visit. The prides of tree-climbing lions and an abundance of flamingos drawn to the soda ash lake make this park an iconic safari destination for photographers.

5 Tips for a Photographic Safari in Tanzania

1. Bring a Zoom Lens

We recommend 200mm or more to capture distant wildlife. If possible, bring two cameras so you don’t have to waste precious time switching between lenses.

2. Shoot During Golden Hours

The early morning and late afternoon have the best lighting for photography. While on a photographic safari, your guide will ensure you’re on game drives at opportune times.

3. Pack Extra Batteries and Memory Cards

Imagine seeing a wildebeest calf take its first step, but your camera battery is dead, so you can’t capture the moment. Avoid missing out by packing extra batteries and memory cards.

4. Take a Private Vehicle

During a group Tanzania safari, the guide has to take everyone’s preferences into account, so you may not be able to stay at sightings for as long as you’d like. For flexibility in positioning for the best angles and timing, request private game drives.

5. Use a Camera Stabiliser

A safari 4×4 trip can be incredibly bumpy! Be prepared by bringing a camera stabiliser along with you so you still get the best shots possible.
