Explore the Okavango Delta by Mokoro Ride

Posted by Tiffany Bowers on 20 Dec 2016

Part of the Visit Botswana & Safaris in Africa Collection

A mokoro ride is a traditional canoe commonly used in the Okavango Delta in Botswana as a popular mode of transport and now utilised for game-viewing safaris. The oarsman stands in the stern and pushes it with the pole. A mokoro ride in the Delta is an absolute must-do activity on a Botswana safari.

All guides learned at a very young age as low as seven years old, making them experts polers. It’s a careful balancing act – the simplest turn or twist could land the passengers in the water. However, this vessel allows you to experience the delta in stealth and tranquillity. Allowing guests to get close to birds and other animals. Experience mokoro rides by trying one of our tailor-made journeys that all include authentic Mokoro Rides. These journeys include; Best of the Okavango Delta Safari, Camping in Moremi Game ReserveEnchanting Moremi Mobile Camping Experience and Exciting Family Safari in Botswana and Namibia.
