The best time to go on a safari in Hwange is during the dry winter months of April to October when large herds of elephants gather at the watering holes.
Between November and March, there is the green (low) season. As animals no longer rely on watering holes for survival and instead stay in the deep, thick woods and forested areas, there are fewer sightings of elephants and other wildlife.
There is a lot of excitement in January and February as the plains game gives birth, which causes a spike in predator-prey interactions. The greatest time to view cheetahs, lions, and wild dogs hunting is now. Expect midday showers and warm, muggy conditions. The plains go from dry and arid to lush and green during this time.
