Unusual Late Crossing on Mara River

This massive herd of wildebeest was seen crossing the Mara River from the Tanzania side. This scene was witnessed by our very own Discover Africa safari experts Alice Lombard and Vihann Van Wyk while travelling through the northern Serengeti in mid-November.

This Tanzania wildebeest migration sighting is particularly special because it occurred during a period not typically associated with river crossings, which normally peak between July and October.

Massive herd spotted near Naabi Hill!

This herd was spotted near Naabi Hill in the Serengeti National Park. The sounds of running hooves and grunts have begun to fill the southern plains as massive herds continue their journey south! This herd will likely reach their nearby calving destination at Lake Ndutu soon.

Huge herd spotted moving at Seronera

This herd was spotted in the Seronera area of the Serengeti National Park. This long line of wildebeest was moving south towards Gol Kopjes from where they will likely make their way towards Lake Ndutu. This herd will soon grow when calves are born during the fast approaching calving season.

Large herd spotted in the Seronera Valley

This herd was spotted in the Seronera Valley area of the Serengeti National Park. There’s more zebras than wildebeest in this herd as they begin moving south away from the Western Corridor. This herd has to be very alert in this area as the Seronera Valley is well known for predators.

Lemala Nanyukie is situated just outside the Central Serengeti’s renowned Seronera, an area famous for its big concentrations of lion, cheetah and leopard. In addition, the area lies in the path of the Wildebeest Migration between April and June, and then again from November to January.

Central and southern Serengeti where the new grass is waiting for the wildebeest and zebra to return is the best place to be for the migration at this time of year.

Mobile camps are set up around the central and southern part of the park in anticipation of the return of the great migration.

Great migration on the move following the heavy rains in the southern and eastern Serengeti

Safari guide Cr Ian captured the great wildebeest migration on the move following the heavy rains in the southern and eastern Serengeti.

However, a large herd of the great migration had been seen moving from Naabi Hill heading towards the Gol mountains. It is predicted that the great migration might arrive early than expected in the Ndutu area due to the heavy rainfalls.

Travelling to Tanzania during the calving season is a sight to behold and something unique to the region
