Is the Legendary Lodge for Me?

Legendary Lodge is located at the foothills of Mount Meru, on the outskirts of the bustling town of Arusha and is the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit of Tanzania. This classic haven boasts lush tropical gardens and is surrounded by a working coffee farm. The peaceful cottages are the perfect place to prepare for or reflect on your safari.

Featuring split-level living, king size beds with mosquito nets and all the comforts of a modern home, including satellite television, direct dial telephone, broadband internet and a private bar. Guests can indulge in gourmet meals including a full English breakfast, delicious lunches and romantic candle-lit dinners, served with a selection of fine wines.

Optional activities offered are a savoury coffee tour, shopping at the nearby Cultural Heritage Centre or an excursion to Arusha, Tarangire and Manyara National Parks or other nearby attractions. Explore the estate and the lush gardens through cycling or walking trails. The lodge spa also offers rejuvenating treatments – after a long flight, ease your body into African time with a relaxing massage.

The lodge is conveniently located, a mere fifteen minutes’ drive from the Arusha Airport and 90 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Dining at Legendary Lodge

As with any farmhouse, the kitchen tends to be the heart of the home, and Legendary Lodge is no exception. Our team of incredibly talented Tanzanian chefs will leave you wishing you had more space for another course. Using only the freshest ingredients and prepared with a large scoop of love, every meal will be an experience.

Breakfast is typically available from 6.30am but we are happy to arrange for it at your desired time. A selection of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurts and pastries — baked that morning by our pastry chef — will be laid out. Your waiter will take a hot breakfast order.

Lunch and dinner offer three courses, with a choice for all courses.

Ensuring that your mealtime is an experience, enjoy the warmth of the sun when we move your lunch table into the gardens, or relax on the verandah at night, with gas heaters warming the air, and a throw around your shoulders.

We welcome you at the fire-place in the evenings for a pre-dinner drink: a chance for us to have a chat, but should you feel so at home that you would prefer to enjoy meals in your cottage, please just let the lodge manager know so that this can be arranged for you.

Walking, Running & Cycling Trails

There are trails in varying lengths throughout the gardens and plantation. Get active and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding areas by cycling, walking or running.

Al-Fresco Dining

Enjoy al fresco dining in the lush gardens or on the verandah. We can arrange a delicious variety of cheeses and charcuteries in the garden or simply order something off of our wonderful menu.

Croquet on the lawn

Spend time with the whole family by enjoying a leisurely outdoor activity, with the fresh air and green surroundings of the estate providing a soothing backdrop for the game.

Legendary Lodge Spa (additional charge)

Ensure complete relaxation before or after safari with a selection of treatments at our in-house spa. For your convenience, certain treatments are available in the privacy of your cottage or in a secluded garden spot.

Shopping Excursions

Shopping in Arusha is a wonderful cultural experience, and part of the fun is in bartering with the local vendor until both parties are happy with the price.

The Cultural Heritage Centre is one of the most comprehensive curio shops, boasting genuine antiques and African artwork, as well as an outstanding selection of gemstones, including the legendary Tanzanite and Tsavorite.

For those passionate about true community upliftment, then Shanga is the place. A heart- warming project dedicated to empowering the disabled community, Shanga produces unique hand-made products from recycled materials.

Legendary Lodge’s own boutique also offers a range of jewellery, clothing and bags.

Coffee Tours (additional charge)

Not forgetting the beginnings of this century-old estate, Legendary Lodge is surrounded by a working coffee plantation. Guests can spend a morning following a coffee bean from tree to cup: from the agriculture, to picking and roasting, to the making of that delicious blend many of us enjoy at home, as Tanzanian coffee is exported far and wide.

Coffee tours take place on Legendary Lodge’s neighbouring Burka Coffee farm.

Safari Day Trips (additional charge)

Legendary Lodge is on the doorstep to a host of wonderful wilderness areas that make for fabulous day trip adventures. The national parks making up the Northern safari circuit are easily reachable by car or short flight in a small aircraft. They can be enjoyed on a day trip or longer and can be arranged on-site with the lodge manager.

Destinations include Arusha, Mt Kilimanjaro, Tarangire and Manyara national parks or the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Helicopter Adventures (additional charge)

Elevate your safari experience to a new level of excellence with the inclusion of an exclusive-use helicopter. Available for private transfers between properties, stunning scenic excursions, or as the ultimate aerial adventure for your entire safari circuit.

Now based out of Arusha for optimum flexibility, the sky is truly the limit.
