Greater Kruger Safari Short and Sweet

This trip was a 20th anniversary/bucket list trip. From the time we landed in South Africa until we sadly had to depart, we were hosted like no other country we’ve visited. Our travel agent, Dianne DuPlessis from Discover Africa, was amazing. We described the trip we were looking for and the type of accommodations and she completely nailed it. All of our accommodations were perfect. We meet so many wonderful host and guests at the different lodges. The food very delicious as was the water & cocktails! 🙂

We were able to see the big 5, little 5, ugly 5, and many others. Our guides and trackers were the best at explaining the ecology of the African Savannah. We learned so much. We highly recommend Dianne and Discover Africa as well as the lodges we stayed at.

We had a lovely trip to Stellenbosch/Franschhoek area and visited some beautiful wine farms. The guide had lots of knowledge and took us to places that we would not have been able to find by just reading reviews. Our overnight stay at Lanzerac Wine Estate was also perfect. TIP: Make sure you book your dinner reservations and spa visit well in advance – the best places are quite busy this time of year.

The safari was fantastic, and Cape Town was amazing. My only regrets, it was not the best time of the year to go, and they could have warned us better. The flat in Cape Town was noisy as too close to the road.

Matthys from Discover Africa helped us organize our trip to Kruger. He was always very responsive, easy to reach and friendly. The lodge we originally wanted to book wasn’t available anymore, but he immediately suggested a great alternative in the same part of the park which we really enjoyed. Same with finding the perfect flights for us. Everything went so smoothly and was so hassle-free – it couldn’t have been organized any better.

I’m not quite sure where to begin when describing my trip to South Africa. It started with impeccable service with our guide/operator Antoinette. She made the process easy and understood that our trip was truly in her hands (we’ve never had a safari holiday).

To begin, everywhere we stayed was impeccably clean, safe, but also just truly enjoyable and fun. The animals we saw we’re incredible. Our guides were not only knowledgeable, but extremely kind. I can’t emphasize the service and generosity we felt at every spot. It was exactly what we dreamed of. Animals at every turn. Delicious food and drink.

An experience of a lifetime that I can’t wait to repeat. This was worth every penny and more.

Megan contacted us by email the next day and we began the process of picking out a trip with her help. We decided on a stay split between Arathusa Lodge in the Sabi Sands reserve and Jock Safari Lodge in Kreuger. Megan arranged all transfers, bookings, internal flights, etc. from Johannesburg airport and back to the airport after our vacation.

There were absolutely no issues with her arrangements. She kept us up to date with emails and totally fulfilled all of her promises to us. I told her this would be a trip of a lifetime for us, but now that we are home we are starting to plan another trip back to Africa and we will use Megan to make our arrangements again.

The lodges she chose were perfect for us. We flew in to the Arathusa private airstrip and were taken to the lodge. That afternoon we went on our first of four game drives from Arathusa. We saw rhino, giraffe, leopards, hyenas, lions, elephants, and so forth. Our ranger and spotter were very knowledgeable about the animals and explained their habits.

Jock Lodge in Krueger has a history going back to the beginnings of the establishment of the park. The game drives there also amazing. If anything, we saw more big cats and elephants than in the Sabi-Sands area. On our last game drive we saw four female lions surround a small herd of buffalo and attack successfully.
