Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport on time for the scheduled flight to Lake Manyara. Depending on your time of arrival, you might have to spend a pre-night in Arusha, contact us for options.

Arrive at Lake Manyara airstrip, meet with your safari guide and road transfer to Ngorongoro Crater lodge. Enjoy some time at the lodge before dinner and night. Ngorongoro Crater Lodge has been called the game lodge at the top of the world. Between the natural riches of the Crater spread out at its feet and the incredible architecture, it’s easy to believe that you have entered a realm of pure fantasy.

The next day, you will enjoy a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephant wander the forests, male lion stalk the grasslands and flamingo crowd the soda lakes.

Breakfast and transfer to the airstrip for the scheduled flight to the Serengeti. Your next 2 nights at Grumeti Serengeti is ideal for a remote game viewing experience complete with resident hippo pods and remarkable lion prides.

Perfectly situated on the banks of a tributary of the Grumeti River, in the secluded western parts of the Serengeti National Park, &Beyond Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge shares breathtaking views and unparalleled sightings. This part of the Serengeti is known for its big lion prides consisting of between 20 and up to 60 lions. Not only are the opportunities for seeing lion in the western Serengeti excellent, but you will more often than not find yourself alone at a sighting.

Back at the lodge, spacious decks are perfect for enjoying sundowners overlooking the river and the lodge’s sparkling rim-flow swimming pool provides a view of the seasonal hippo pods below. The proximity to water draws a profusion of wildlife throughout the day and night.

Breakfast and transfer to the airstrip for the scheduled flights to the Mara, Kenya (several hops and a shuttle transfer included for border crossing). Arrive at the airstrip and met with your safari guide for the short transfer to the lodge. The last 3 nights of your journey are filled with excellent service, delicious food and plenty of amazing wildlife sightings with the scheduled shared game drives in this very prolific area.

The Masai Mara is unforgettable due to the abundance of wildlife and spectacular landscapes. This is the quintessential African safari experience, where you can expect to encounter the Big Five and observe thrilling predator interaction. The camp is set amongst the forest at the foot of the scenic Oloololo escarpment (the rim of the Great Rift Valley) in the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, offering a sense of classic elegance and tranquility.

Last morning in the bush, enjoy breakfast at the lodge before the transfer to the airstrip.

Fly to Wilson airport in Nairobi and road transfer to Jomo Kenyatta, time at leisure until your onward flight. You can also extend your safari with a few days at the beach, or meet with the gorillas - contact us for some options.

My early July eight-day safari was supposed to capture the Mara River crossings but the herds failed to cooperate and had only just reached the river on the last day. Nonetheless the safari was a fabulous success. We flew from Zanzibar directly to Lake Manyara to minimize drive times and spend more days on game drives.

Antoinette put our trip together: the lake, Ngorongoro Crater, the Central Serengeti and the Northern Serengeti. Our guide delivered the goods. Penuel Tango had a vast knowledge of both the animals and the lay of the land along with a fully equipped and fully working vehicle that made the daily game drives easy and fun.

Not only did he know where to find the prized critters, he could spot them from far away when all we could see were grass and trees. Lions, leopards, cheetahs, jackals, rhinos, elephants, buffalo, and the great herds were all open to us on every drive. He knew the stories of lion prides in the area. Our goal was to see as many animals as we could and we did. We were up close and personal with lions, cheetahs and leopards on every drive. He was patient made waiting for action a priority and in being so we were often had “private” viewings of the big cats.

The huge herds of the Northern Serengeti were a wonder to see and experience up close as they made their way north and Penuel knew all about them, their habits and life cycles.

Overnight lodging was the lesser part of each day but Antoinette arranged great camps with good food and accommodations that all had very attentive and friendly staff. Boxed lunches provided for game drives were sufficient and varied. July is peak season for safaris and we saw and learned about the experiences of others. Not all were perfect. Not all were well planned. Broken vehicles and bad guides happen. With Discover Africa we didn’t have any troubles anytime during the adventure. The planning time Antoinette spent with me up front paid off mightily. Zoom calls with her topped trying to do things only by email.

Everything happened right on time and without any hitches. Flights were smooth and effortless, accommodations seamless, Guide interactions perfect. Excellent work all around.
