Honeymoon Safari in the Serengeti National Park

A trip of a lifetime. Great guides covering Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyana, Ngorongoro crater and southern Serengeti, where we saw herds of elephants, giraffes, antelope, zebra, wildebeast, cape buffalo, eland, jackels, hyenas, mongeese, hippopotomi, rhinoceroses, lion, leopard, cheetah and loads more. This was followed by a more relaxing period on the beaches of Zanzibar, where we snorkelled with dolphins and amongst the numerous fish living on the coral reef.

Every day on safari, we woke thinking that the day could not be better than the previous one but were consistenly wrong.

The fixed accomodation was excellent, the mobile camp was more agricultural as expected. Food across the various locations was good to great.

Definitely worth the money, with incredible experiences

We booked a safari with Susan and as it was something I have been eagerly anticipating most of my life, we opened the budget strings a little. If we were going to do it once, we really wanted to get it right and make sure to make the most of it. We were still blown away. Although we have been home for a couple weeks, it still hasn’t really sunk it what an amazing experience it was. Susan set up an incredible itinerary, covering both Tanzania and Kenya during the wildebeest migration. Stayed a two five star camps, Taasa Lodge and the Soroi Luxury Migration Camp and both were better than we could have even hoped. The animal experiences were incredible, staff were unbelievably friendly, food unreal. Just a great family experience.

When there were little hiccups, and there are bound to be, Susan promptly responded and sorted it out. She was great. Would recommend her to anyone looking for a trip of a lifetime safari!

Working with Susan was a pleasure—she took time to understand our requirements, was knowledgeable about every aspect of our holiday, was highly responsive to the many questions we had both before and after we had booked the trip and put together a fabulous itinerary. Every detail was taken care of for us, which was hugely valuable given the complexity of a trip covering multiple destinations. The value of having Susan supporting us was apparent from the first day of our trip when our international flights from the UK were cancelled and the first 48 hours of our itinerary had to be modified – we were so grateful for her help in taking care of all the changes. All in all, it was a great experience.

For our honeymoon, my wife and I decided we wanted to plan the dream African safari trip we’d always hoped to take at some point in our lives. Discover Africa Safaris (and, specifically, Megan!) absolutely exceeded our expectations in every regard, and we are SO grateful to have found them when we were doing our research to plan our trip.

When planning our trip, my wife and I weren’t quite sure where we wanted to go, what time of year, and specifically what experiences we wanted to prioritize while we were on our trip. Megan was incredibly knowledgeable — she listened to our ideas and the things that were (and weren’t!) important to us, and compiled everything together into an awesome itinerary. She was friendly, knowledgeable, quick to respond via email, offered great ideas for revising our itinerary to meet any follow-up needs/requests, and overall did a fantastic job.

Having returned from our trip, I can confidently say that the trip lived up to even our highest expectations.

All of our guides/outfitters were extremely knowledgable and were great with the logistics/planning to help make sure we were always where we needed to be (and enjoying ourselves) every part of our trip. We had the spectacular wildlife sightings and encounters we’d always dreamed of. And, we felt safe, and well taken care of the entire time. At several times during our trip, we found ourselves saying “…this trip is incredible…Megan crushed it!”

Overall, we had a very exciting experience at one camp in Kenya and two in Tanzania. The camp sites were great all had excellent food and service. Our three Safari guides/drivers were excellent. They spoke great English and had excellent knowledge about the animals and the local culture. All 3-guides had wonderful personalities who are well trained.

All three camps had very good accommodations, which progressively improved from a very nice soft tent camp to large luxurious farmhouse on a coffee plantation. Planning and coordination of the trip went well with drivers and guides at each transfer on time with excellent vehicles and service.

We had a minor airline delay at one of the airstrips which we communicated to our Discover Africa coordinator on WhatsApp and that was quickly resolved. We think that we got a good value for our money and recommend Discover Africa to anyone who wants private tours, guides and transfers throughout their trip.

We booked our Tanzanian and Kenyan safari through Megan Warrington of Discoverafrica.com. Megan was superb and planned the perfect safari for us. All connections/pickups and accommodations were flawlessly executed.

We started off in Ilkeliani, on the border of the Masai Mara park (you cross a little footbridge next to the tents over the Talek river and you are right in the park) which is professionally managed by Sylvester.

He happily and obligingly dealt with all our requests. We were treated to 3 delicious meals/food boxes per day. The camp prepared food exactly according to our dietary requirements. At night we heard the hippos and hyenas of the park from our perfectly appointed tents.

The highlight of the stay was our safari drives. Our devoted guide Joseph showed us amazing sights ranging from cheetahs marking their territory, a leopard guarding its kill, and lions feasting on zebra. In addition to that, Joseph opened our eyes to the Masai culture.

After that, we flew over to the Serengeti where we spent 5 wonderful days at the Nasikia mobile migration camp in the northern Serengeti national park.

Our game drives by Andrei were an unforgettable experience. Through his patience and insights were experienced several Mara river crossings, one spanning over 15 minutes. We saw all the big 5 including a Leopard stalking gazelles and lions and their pride playing in tree.

The mobile camp is located on the top of a hill, and we were literally surrounded by wildebeest and zebra herds.
The food was deliciously prepared by Martin who took great care of our dietary requirements.

Showers were a little challenge because there is no running water, so they are bucket showers. The tents though were well equipped and very comfortable.

After that we flew over to Karatu where we visited Lake Manyara park (didn’t see flamingoes or tree lions unfortunately, but the park is beautiful) and the Ngorongoro Crater, filled with game.
