Day 1

Kruger National Park

Staying at Rhino Post Safari Lodge

Fly from Johannesburg or Tambo to Skukuza airport, located within the Kruger National Park. On arrival, you will be met by the lodge's representative, who will drive you to camp. At camp, you will have a delicious high tea in the lounge overlooking the waterhole before departing for an afternoon/evening game drive.

Game drive safaris at Rhino Post Safari Lodge are conducted by professional guides in specially adapted open 4x4 vehicles. You will have the opportunity to enjoy game viewing within the wilderness concession and have exclusive use of 170 kilometres of road within the Kruger National Park after dark when other visitors are confined to camp.

You will stop for sundowner drinks and snacks at sunset before continuing into the night in search of wildlife, particularly predominantly nocturnal species.

Upon return to the lodge, you’ll have time to freshen up before a sumptuous dinner on the deck or in the dining room. Dinner is sometimes complemented by even more game viewing as animals come down to the waterhole to drink and smaller creatures, such as genets or owls, occasionally pop by the deck whilst on forays for their dinner.

Day 2

Staying at Rhino Post Safari Lodge

Early wake-up call, with a nice cup of tea or coffee, fruit, muffins or biscotti before heading out on your game drive. The ideal time for game viewing is early morning and the late afternoon and evening as this is when many wild animals and birds are most active.

On the drive you may encounter a wide range of wildlife and your guide will surprise you by spotting animals you might have missed. Keep your eyes open to spot the elephants quietly feeding under giant jackalberry trees along the river bank.

Return to the lodge where brunch will be served, and have time at leisure to rest, read a book, unwind at the pool or have a nap in your room.

High tea will be served before the afternoon game drive and return to camp for dinner.

Day 3

Staying at Plains Camp at Rhino Walking Safaris

Experience an early morning game drive afterwhich you’ll enjoy brunch back at the camp. Pack up your bags as you will be transferred by 4x4 to Plains Camp (home of Rhino Walking Safaris), a trip which takes about 30 minutes and is a mini-game drive in itself.

After settling into your 19th century explorer-style luxury tent and being shown around the camp, high tea is served followed by a briefing by your guide on the ‘do’s & don’ts’ of Kruger National Park walking safaris.

Rhino Walking Safari guides meet the stringent requirements of the South African National Parks (SANParks) and our senior staff are amongst the best available. All walks are led by two armed guides.

After the guides have been through the safety precautions, you will set off on a short introductory walk which is always an exhilarating experience. A walking safari in Africa is an incredible way to immerse yourself in nature and spot fauna and flora that can be missed during game drives.

You will later return to the vehicle in time for sundowners and enjoy a short night drive before returning to camp

Day 4

Staying at Plains Camp at Rhino Walking Safaris

All walking trails are enjoyed in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat, with the average morning walk being between three and four hours.

The length of the evening walk depends on the time of the year, but it usually lasts up to an hour and is typically combined with a short game drive.

A walking safari through the bush heightens all the senses and offers unrivalled opportunities to immerse yourself in the rhythms of nature. The alarm calls of Red-billed oxpeckers may alert your guide to an old buffalo feeding in the reeds along a riverbed. A porcupine quill reveals that Africa’s largest rodent foraged along a trail during the night, and the fresh tracks of a pride of lions mean that the vultures may soon be in business.

After returning from the morning walking safari, a hearty brunch is served. You can cool off in the plunge pool or simply relax on the deck while watching wildlife on Timbetene Plain.

High tea is followed by an afternoon walking safari and a short evening game drive.

Drinks around the fire, followed by dinner complete the day.

Day 6

End of Itinerary

After a light snack and tea or coffee, you’ll be taken on your last Kruger Park walking safari. You'll then be back at camp to freshen up, and brunch will be served. You’ll then be transferred to Rhino Post Safari Lodge for check-out and then return to Skukuza airport for your return flight to Johannesburg.
