The camp is set up by the team ahead of time and offers spacious en-suite tents with solid base camp beds. You’ll enjoy three nights in the Moremi Game Reserve and three nights in the Mababe area by the Khwai River on this fantastic seven-day mobile safari adventure in Botswana.

Your safari begins with a light aircraft flight from Maun into the Xakanaxa area of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will meet you on arrival and take you to your camp. You will spend three nights here exploring the vast wildlife-rich wetland of the Moremi Game Reserve.

The tents are 4 x 3m Sahara-style tents with a high roof with a 2 x 3m en-suite bathroom, and a 2 x 3m covered area in front of the tent. The tents are fitted with solid base camp beds made up with mattresses, sheets, duvets, and pillows. The tents have en-suite long-drop toilet facilities and a bucket shower at the rear of the tent.

Showers can be ordered as hot, cold or warm, and the water is heated in a bucket on the fire. Each tent has an oil/paraffin lamp on the veranda and in the bathroom, and within the tent itself, an LED rechargeable camp light is supplied along with a side table in the sleeping area and in the bathroom. Two days to explore the Moremi Game Reserve with game drives. Moremi lies on the eastern extremity of the Okavango Delta. Habitats here range from wide-open floodplains, marshes, lagoons, papyrus-fringed channels, woodland and savannah, therefore offering diverse wildlife and birdlife viewing opportunities. Moremi is amongst the best game reserves in Africa for viewing the endangered African wild dog.

Xakanaxa is home to a resident herd of several hundred buffalo whose range covers the territories of at least four prides of lion, which may often be seen flanking the ever-moving herd. Breeding herds of elephant move between their browsing areas in the mopane forests and the fresh water of the Okavango. Red lechwe are one of the more unusual antelope species and commonly found here.

The fourth day of your mobile safari in Botswana will start with an early morning breakfast. Then, you’ll take a slow drive through Moremi Game Reserve northeast towards the Khwai and Mababe areas. On this moving day, we shall do a mokoro excursion in the calmer backwaters of the Khwai and Mbudi channels. The Manuchira Channel is known as the Khwai River at its easternmost extremity.

This day’s journey follows this watercourse, with the track weaving from the riverside and floodplains into the mopane veld and the woodlands that lead to the Mababe Private Reserve, where camp will be set up on the banks of the Khwai River before it flows out and into the Mababe Depression. You’ll pass the magnificent Dombo Hippo Pools in the morning, stopping to enjoy the scenery and the antics of the resident hippos, and game drive through Khwai until Mababe.

The stay at this exclusive campsite in the Mababe concession gives you the opportunity to explore the area on game drives both during the day and at night. While exploring after dark with spotlights, you’ll experience some of the nocturnal animals that are rarely encountered during the day.

You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot (this activity is seasonal, based on rains and grass height; your guide will determine the safety of walking) to enjoy an up-close and personal encounter with Botswana’s flora and fauna.

Night drives and guided walks are not permitted within the national parks and reserves and will be conducted in the Mababe Private Reserve. The Mababe region boasts excellent populations of elephants, while lions, leopards, servals, and African wildcats are common predators of the region.

On the last day of your mobile safari in Botswana, after breakfast, you’ll take a game drive to the airstrip. Your charter flight back to Maun will meet you here.

Despite our moving from camp to camp (my friend planned our itinerary) four times, everything went off without a hitch. We we were welcomed enthusiastically by the staff at each camp, including being serenaded when we arrived and at every dinner. The camps were well designed and well designed. They were way beyond anything we could imagine. The food was excellent and healthy choices were always offered.

Our lodging was spacious and comfortable, and we enjoyed night sounds of our surroundings, including the grunting Hippos in the river nearby. The guides assigned to us were skilful and very personable. They made sure we had endless opportunities safely to get up close to wildlife for photos that will last a lifetime. This was a remarkable trip, which we will never forget.
