Is the Segera Retreat for Me?

Segera lies in the high grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau, its six timber and thatch villas raised above a profusion of botanical life to offer views towards Mount Kenya.

Each large, en-suite bedroom has a private deck with sun loungers, swing bed and sunken jacuzzi into the deck outside the bedroom.

The recently restored Farmhouse Homestead, gracious Segera House and Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury.

The main area comprises the Paddock House, Wine Tower and renovated stables, complete with bar and dining room filled with contemporary African art from The Zeitz Collection.

With many extraordinary indoor and outdoor settings, dining at Segera is an unforgettable experience.

What’s more, our internationally renowned kitchen delivers delicious healthy meals, created using home-grown, organic and free-range ingredients.

This new 2 bedroom villa offers large private gardens and sunrise views of Mount Kenya.

The luxurious contemporary en-suite bedrooms connect through a light-filled conservatory with a kitchenette and dining room for family meals served by your personal Villa Attendant.

Each bedroom and the conservatory have iconic glass exteriors with large doors opening onto a private veranda.

Segera House

This double-storey house features a dramatic Swahili door, an open-plan lounge and 3 en-suite master bedrooms, perfect for a multi-generational family or 3 couples travelling together.

A gallery links the 2 upstairs rooms with views down into the atrium-style lounge that opens onto a dining area and gorgeous private pool.

Elegant furniture with safari inspired tones and natural materials create a relaxed holiday feel, and a dining room with kitchenette offers comfort and space for in-villa meal experiences, curated by the chef and personal Villa Attendant.

Farmhouse

The original ranch homestead has been transformed into a contemporary family farmhouse with slick black floors and French double-doors that open from 3 bedrooms out onto a canopied outdoor lounge and private pool.

The extra single bedroom is perfect for a nanny or additional traveller.

Inside, a farmhouse kitchen, fireside lounge and dining room make it feel welcoming.

Beyond the euphorbia edged garden, where you will see giraffes visiting daily, you will also wake up to spectacular sunrises and poetic views of Mount Kenya.

Villa Segera

This villa is perfect for honeymooners or families wanting absolute privacy.

The 2 en-suite bedrooms are on stilts, connected by suspended walkways hovering above the open-air living and dining space alongside a private pool.

The octagonally shaped rooms give multiple views across Mount Kenya, the Sugeroi River and a waterhole in front of the villa.

A glass conservatory with folding doors neighbours the private swimming pool and offers a kitchenette, contemporary lounge and dining room for private culinary experiences during your stay, in addition to Segera’s many dining venues.

Game Drives

Wildlife can be viewed from 4×4 vehicles. Roaming freely though Laikipia, the area boasts the second highest density of wildlife in Kenya, including Endangered species such as patas monkeys, Grevy’s zebra and wild dog.

Set out under the African sun on foot and take in the beauty of the landscape and all the wildlife and birdlife it has to offer.

NAY PALAD Bird Nest

Created by NAY PALAD to sustain Segera’s groundbreaking conservation initiatives in Kenya, the Bird Nest is a one-of-a-kind accommodation at award-winning Segera Retreat, inspired by the beauty of nature and offering a new concept of nesting and sleeping like a bird – above the ground, with 360 degree sceneries and a bird’s eye view over this beautiful wilderness.

A collaboration between Segera and NAY PALAD, creator of artisanal objects and magical destinations, both envisioned a peaceful jewel at the very heart of the natural world.

With this imaginative approach, their idea of a bird nest came to life – an inspiring living space unlike anything else in the world, and most importantly, designed to sustain Kenya’s wildlife for future generations.

As guests’ accommodation at Segera Retreat is kept exclusively for them while they visit the NAY PALAD Bird Nest, there is an additional fee for this extraordinary safari experience.

This Bird Nest fee enables Segera to conserve and safeguard its wildlife, local communities and land. In fact, Segera’s initiatives not only help to protect its 50,000 acres of wildlife refuge, and all those who depend on it for their survival, but they also reach further afield with some exciting large-scale conservation plans already in motion.

These exciting activities include the formation, training and employment of Segera’s All-Women Anti-Poaching Ranger Unit, as well asour potential formation of the largest rhino sanctuary in East Africa, if not the world.

After an exhilarating game drive or bush walk, guests are brought to the NAY PALAD Bird Nest just before sunset.

The nest is lit up with lanterns, with “Sundowners” of champagne and culinary delights laid out on the top deck where guests will enjoy a magical African sunset, feast on a picnic-style dinner and fall asleep under the sparkling African sky (or in the sheltered luxury of the bedroom below) … The following morning, breakfast is delivered to their doorstep, to be enjoyed while watching elephants, giraffe and other wildlife at the river.
