Grand Tour of Southern Africa

We were initially overwhelmed with all of the options for African Safaris when we first started planning our trip. Luckily, Discover Africa responded promptly to our initial request for information and we were quickly scheduled for an initial consult with Adelle Bell.

Adelle presented several options and really listened to our feedback to tailor a perfect week in the African bush for our honeymoon. She took care of absolutely everything for us besides the international flights, which was a big weight off our shoulders after just planning so much time planning our wedding ourselves. She was also extremely communicative throughout the planning process and while we were on the ground the week of our honeymoon as well.

We spent 3 nights at Motswari in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve followed by 3 nights at Arathusa in Sabi Sands Private Game reserve. Both lodges and reserves surpassed our expectations. Motswari felt like a much more traditional and authentic safari experience, while Arathusa felt more up-scale and resort like. The staff and hospitality at both were fantastic, and the game drives surpassed our expectations immediately.

If you are considering booking a vacation to Africa, I would highly recommend booking through Discover Africa and asking for Adelle specifically. She will knock it out of the park!

It was an extensive planning process to put together a 24 day safari and adventure trip covering Victoria Falls, Mana Pools and Hwange Park in Zimbabwe, followed by a wonderful experience in Botswana on the Chobe River and Okvango Delta. There were flight considerations and a few changed plans along the way. I was worried that I was becoming a bore but no, Adelle was just as excited to plan my trip as I was to go on it. Finally the day arrived and I boarded my flights and arrived in Victoria Falls after 36 hours of travel. There waiting for me was my shuttle driver and the hotel was amazing. The next day the same level of service and off to Mana Pools I went. Same wonderful level of service.

But 1.5 days later I fell in the middle of the night and fractured two discs in my back. The care and support I received from Adelle is what got me through what could have turned into a tragedy. She was there for me every step of the way and continued to check in with me after I was finally safe at home. I don’t know what I would have done without her. A 5 star rating is simply not enough. Discover Africa and Adelle deserve a million stars. Once my back is healed we will begin the planning process again. They have won not only my repeat business but also my heart. I cannot sing their praises loudly enough.

We booked a safari through Discover Africa for Botswana and Zambia and it was fantastic! Chrizaan was super helpful and accommodating, especially when we had to change our dates of travel slightly. She worked with the lodges to accommodate us and found a solution. She booked us in terrific tented safari lodges in Botswana with the nicest staff and very comfortable, modern accommodations. We were so fortunate to see the “Big 5” and even cheetahs with our trusted guides and we also encountered very beautiful birdlife. We found the price of the trip to be reasonable and the food and lodgings were all very good.

It was a wonderful trip that we’ll remember forever and we highly recommend Discover Africa for booking your trips!!

This was our first trip to Africa. We had already decided on Botswana but needed guidance as to the best camps to suit our preference for good bird spotting as well as seeing animals large & small, walking safaris, boat & mokoro excursions in the Okavango Delta. We also wanted to stay a good few days at each camp & really get the feel of the camp & the area, rather than rushing from one to another spending only 2 or 3 nights at each.

Vihann paid close attention to the things that interested us & put together an itinerary which perfectly suited our needs. This consisted of 5 nights each at 3 camps, Leroo La Tau, Nxamaseri Island & Camp Okavango. All 3 camps are run by Desert & Delta, & we will separately review the camps elsewhere. Highlights included large numbers of giraffe, elephant, zebra & the many different antelopes at Leroo La Tau; extraordinary birdlife at Nxamaseri (almost matched by the other 2 camps); close encounters with hippo, crocodile & (on no fewer than 3 different walks) lions at Camp Okavango.

Vihann arranged the camps & internal flights, & ensured everything ran smoothly. He also answered our numerous questions patiently. Desert & Delta combine comfort, good facilities, expert guiding & excellent food with something even more important – a genuinely friendly & joyful atmosphere that is more than simple “professional” friendliness”. The camps are also very efficiently run. Desert & Delta’s style suited our preference for camps where guests & staff mingle, & the atmosphere is sociable, something else which Vihann had also taken on board when putting together our trip.

We just returned yesterday from our Discover Africa honeymoon trip booked by Susan. It was amazing from start to finish. We started out in Cape Town; we visited Boulders Beach, v&a waterfront for the boat rides, etc., and some shopping. The hotel Susan picked was located in the perfect spot, right near many restaurants, and to travel we used Ubers, which all in all was very cheap to use.

Our next stop was Kruger National Park, which was by far my favourite part of the trip. Lion Sands Tinga Lodge was our stay, and the 2 daily game drives were amazing. Even though it was an early start, it was all worth it for what animals we saw, and no game drive was the same. Our last stay was in Victoria Falls. The hotel was amazing, and the views were amazing.

The only downfall of that part was you couldn’t take a walk, etc. out of the hotel due to animals roaming, so you could only use taxis or shuttles, which could end up expensive, and being on a bed and breakfast basis ended up being expensive when buying food at the hotel.

But other than that, all in all, the whole stay was incredible and a once in a lifetime experience. We say we will be back in the future with our children when they are older. Also, Susan was amazing whenever I needed help to sort anything out. Currency/booking my flights, etc., so I made sure we booked the right ones. Thank you again!

Chelsea's Honeymoon Safari Experience

We had a great week on safari and all the arrangements worked well. There was a problem with our hotel in JNB when we arrived the evening before we left on safari and Adelle Bell answered our call and fixed it quickly even though it was outside working hours.
