Cape Town, Sabi Sand Safari and Victoria Falls Honeymoon

We are an Australian family of 6 and have just returned from a 2-week safari holiday in South Africa. Discover Africa was excellent. Devryn Panaino was our consultant and he was full of good information and always speedy with a return email.

There was not a single glitch during our holiday. The lodges and camps recommended were exactly what we asked for, with very comfortable accommodation and a couple of dietary requirements catered for every single meal. The guides and trackers were first-rate. They were very friendly and seemed to know everything about the African bush and its wildlife. They would get us into the best possible viewing spot every time and always so close to the animals.

Even the transfers were good – on time with friendly drivers and air-conditioned vans. Each transfer turned into a mini safari.
We hope to return to Africa in the next few years and will absolutely use Dev and the team at Discover Africa.

We began planning our safari by researching companies that offer both prepackaged and custom tailored trips. We interviewed our top 4 over Zoom or by telephone. Discover Africa, and Diane in particular, came out miles ahead of the others. Diane listened to our needs, anticipated things we had not thought of and provided suggestions, and worked with us to tweak this trip to be exactly what we wanted. Communications was top notch. Their portal for providing trip details was beautiful, thorough and very easy to use. Payment was seamless.

The trip itself turned out to be everything we had asked for and more. The logistics of moving us from camp to camp and country to country had is a bit worried, as it was just the two of us and not an entire tour group. Well we needn’t have worried. Between Diane, the camp management and the transportation providers things ran seamlessly. We had lots of contact numbers for Diane, Discover Africa and our providers should we run into any snags, but all went very smoothly.

The camps themselves, as well as Cape Town, were beyond our expectations. People truly couldn’t do enough for us. We felt safe and cared for at all times. The food was plentiful, varied and delicious. The scenery was spectacular and varied. The guides were friendly, so knowledgeable, and very accommodating. We saw every animal on our list apart from the elusive cheetah. We experienced some very rare and fortunate sightings. We particularly enjoyed the communal dining at the camps and were happy to meet travellers from far and wide, learn from them, and develop new friendships.

One of the highlights for me was the welcome and pre dinner entertainment provided by the staff at the camps. Cooks, housekeeping, guides, managers, waitstaff…they all came out with singing and dancing that was just so beautiful and heartfelt. How privileged we were to spend time with such multitalented and beautiful people.

Looking at our early plans for the trip, the style of travel, and our budget, the trip evolved into something so much more customized, comfortable, and yes…more expensive. Before leaving on the trip I was second guessing how much I chose to spend and whether it was overkill. Let me tell you…this trip was worth every Penny. It was the experience of a lifetime and I’m so glad we discovered Discover Africa and Diane who made it all possible.

Discover Africa Safaris listened to what we wanted to experience in Africa and tailor made a series of fly in fly out safaris for us. The game drive locations that they chose were exceptional. This is why we came to Africa. Within minutes of our first game drive we were within metres of a pride of lions. The next day we were following a tracker on foot to a group of cheetah cubs.

They were contactable during our holiday and were able to resolve an issue which arose with one of our accommodation providers during our holiday. This enabled us to enjoy our holiday whilst they sorted out the issue in the background.

We had a great experience planning our holiday with Discover Africa, and especially with Diane. She set up an initial Zoom call to help understand our wishes for planning a memorable first time on safari. She was flexible and found ways to adjust the itinerary when I asked about changes (e.g., swapping out a portion of the holiday, adding a private tour, etc.). When we found ourselves ill during the trip, Diane was a lifesaver. We had to change a portion of our itinerary, and she did it all promptly, which was such a relief, allowing us to relax and get better before our safari portion of the trip started. It would have been such a pain if we had to manage ourselves. She even coordinated with the hotel to send a doctor to our room.

On a whole, all the hotel bookings were excellent – great locations, rooms, and breakfast options. Our transfers were always on time and made getting around so convenient. The safari was certainly the highlight, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We saw so many animals on game drives, and even from our room. The staff and service, including the food, was fantastic. I know we’ll want to have another safari experience in the future and will come back to booking with Discover Africa.

My family and I had a great time on our trip to Botswana and Zimbabwe. It’s been a long time coming since we booked this trip for the summer of “nothing” (2020) and had to reschedule for 2023. Adelle was fantastic and patient as we made date changes several times. The hotels and experiences at these hotels were great–including the super fun (casino) hotel in Johannesburg. That made the overnight we weren’t really looking forward to so fun.

Adelle covered all of the details and was amazingly responsive for the 7-hour time difference. She answered every question we had. The hotels were beautiful, good safaris and great service. We were even upgraded to the Safari Club in Victoria Falls, which was an extra treat. The river safari in Botswana was a family favorite, as was the tour of Victoria Falls. I also want to say the border crossing between Botswana and Zimbabwe would have been a little nerve-wracking if we were doing it on our own.

Great trip! I highly recommend them and have done so already with several friends. I plan to use Discover Africa on our next trip to Africa.
