Arrive at Lusaka International airport on time for the scheduled flight to Mfuwe. Depending on your arrival time, you might need to overnight in Lusaka, we can assist you with this pre-night. Arrive Mfuwe airstrip and you are met by the lodge driver for your road transfer. Spend 3 nights at Flatdogs in a luxury tent including your meals.

Flatdogs is the closest camp to the Mfuwe main gate of South Luangwa National Park. The safari activities are led by a fully-qualified guide.

The South Luangwa is one of the few parks in Africa to allow night drives, and the guides’ knowledge of animal behaviour really pays off after dark. Knowing where predators might hunt, which other predators might be around to take advantage, and how to ensure there are no interferences with the normal behaviour of these animals is crucial to your enjoyment.

Enjoy two full days of safari, the days are filled with game viewing, time at the lodge to snooze after the early morning calls, and eating delicious meals under the shade of the trees , or in the dining room.

Although not a “big 5” destination due to the sad demise of the rhino in the 1980’s, the Luangwa combines fantastic wildlife. South Luangwa has many herbivores, three of which stand out as being endemic to the area. Thornicroft’s giraffe has different markings to the giraffes in the rest of southern Africa. Elephant and buffalo are numerous, as well as many antelopes, especially impala, bushbuck and puku.

The main predators in the Luangwa Valley are lion, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dog. The South Luangwa is renowned as being the place to see leopard. Leopard hunt nocturnally, and South Luangwa is one of Africa’s few national parks to allow spotlight night drives. Through the continued insistence on ethical and respectful guiding policy, leopards here in the Luangwa have become used to vehicles and are now considerate enough to continue hunting and feeding in their presence, leading to outstanding sightings.
