Both Rwanda and Uganda are renowned for their gorilla trekking safari experiences. Neither country could be said to offer a definitively better tracking experience than the other. However, it can be said that the open nature of Volcanoes National Park’s forest in Rwanda makes it slightly more reliable for photography than Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
For those with limited time, it’s also far quicker to reach Volcanoes National Park from the Rwandan capital Kigali (which is a three- to four-hour transfer) than it is to reach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park from Uganda’s main air gateway, Entebbe (a transfer that’s better split over two days).
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is only a two-and-a-half-hour transfer from Volcanoes National Park. You can combine the two destinations for the ultimate luxury gorilla trekking safari.
In Uganda’s favour, tracking gorillas there is cheaper than in Rwanda. Uganda also boasts the Queen Elizabeth National Park, which is renowned for its tree-climbing lions – an incredible sight to see and a highlight of luxury Uganda safaris.
