Follow the Migration in Tanzania

Tarangire National Park is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire river that crosses through the park, being the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. It covers an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers(1,100 square miles.) The landscape and vegetation is incredibly diverse dotted with vast numbers of Baobab trees, dense bush and high grasses.

Arrive at the lodge and relax after your long flight. Centered around a Main Lodge - which itself encases a thousand year-old baobab tree - Tarangire Treetops comprises of 20 rooms all of which are elevated above the ground affording views over the tops of surrounding marula and baobab trees. Enjoy dinner at the lodge and your first night in the bush.

Today is spent game driving in the Tarangire with your private vehicle, we suggest taking a packed lunch and enjoy a picnic in the park.

The park is famous for its huge number of elephants, and baobab trees. You can expect to see various herds of zebra and wildebeest, as well as waterbuck, giraffe, and olive baboons. Home to more than 550 species, the park is a haven for bird enthusiasts who can expect to see dozens of species even in the dry season. The swamps are the focus of the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world. Yellow-collared Lovebirds are a common bird sighting in the trees along the Tarangire River.

You are back at the lodge in the afternoon and can relax before dinner.

After breakfast, exit the area and travel to nearby Lake Manyara for your game drive. Spend a couple of hours in the park and continue to Karatu. The lovely Plantation Lodge is your home for the next 2 nights, walk about in the large gardens, or relax by the pool before enjoying delicious dinners under the stars in the terrace or the dining room.

Lake Manyara National Park centres around its eponymous alkaline lake, a key habitat for hundreds of bird species. Between November and April, thousands of greater and lesser pink flamingos gather on its shores, along with pink-backed pelicans, yellow-billed storks, grey herons and pods of hippo. Surrounding the lake are marshlands, grassy plains and acacia woodlands, home to tree-climbing lion and long-tusked elephant. Giraffe strut across the grasslands, where herds of buffalo, zebra and wildebeest graze.

Early wake up call and depart to the nearby Ngorongoro Crater. Once upon a time Ngorongoro was a volcano. Then it collapsed, creating a bowl-like depression known as a caldera. Of the hundreds of calderas around the world, Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unbroken one, meaning that no part of the crater wall has been breached. It is almost 20 km wide and covers 264 km².

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a vast and untouched protected area teeming with the densest wildlife populations on earth, breathtaking landscapes, mountains, world’s largest unbroken caldera, history of human evolution, and so much more. You travel down the Crater and start your game viewing.

Possibility to enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the sites and back at Plantation Lodge in the late afternoon. Dinner and night.

Breakfast and transfer to the Manyara airstrip. Say your good-byes to your guide and fly to the Serengeti. Arrival at Seronera and meet with the lodge's guide. Transfer via a meandering game drive. Your 3 nights stay include all your meals, local beverages, shared scheduled game drives and laundry.

The camp’s main base sits proudly in the heart of the Central Serengeti, in the Seronera valley. Not only does this superb location provide exceptional year-round game viewing, the migration passes through twice a year, usually during June/July.

During the day it is open on three sides, letting you gaze out at timeless, endless vistas, interrupted only by birdsong. Relax, or ask your personal butler to arrange a hot tub in the sunken bathtub, or a meal in the privacy of your tent. Then, after a day’s adventures, slip under fresh linen in your king size bed before being lulled to sleep by the timeless music of the Serengeti.

Today, your travel to the North of the Serengeti following the herds. Usually during the month of July and August, thousands of wildebeest travel through the plains to reach to Mara River and cross over to the Masai Mara. Meet with your new guide and transfer to the luxury Sayari Lodge, ideally located close to the river. This is your home away from home for the next 3 nights.

Overlooking the golden plains, your spacious tented suites has a walk-in shower, al fresco tub and veranda on which you can laze away the afternoon with a book. Sayari’s rim-flow pool is set between natural rock formations to cool off in while watching elephants or zebras ambling past camp. After a dip, treat yourself to a beer at the Serengeti’s first solar-powered microbrewery before an afternoon game drive and sundowners around the campfire.

Start the day bright and early with a wake-up call and tea or coffee delivered to your tent. Enjoy breakfast before you depart for a morning game drive (or have it packed as a picnic to take with you). You'll arrive back at camp mid-morning, with a chance to freshen up before lunch and some siesta time. Take a dip in the pool, and refuel with afternoon tea, then depart for an afternoon game drive with sundowners. You'll be back in time for drinks at the bar and dinner under the stars.

Last morning in the bush and transfer to the airstrip. Your flight to Kilimanjaro is included, alternatively you can extend your trip with a hop into the Masai Mara or a gorilla trekking in Rwanda, contact us for options.
