Affordable Cape Town, Kruger Safari and Victoria Falls journey

We have just returned from a trip to 3 different safari camps in Botswana, a short trip to Victoria Falls and a gorilla trek in Rwanda that was booked with Susan from Discover Africa. We couldn’t be happier with the direction and support she gave us to truly make it a trip of a lifetime.

Although the three camps she booked for us were geographically quite close, they were very different in the wildlife viewing experiences, with different focuses for each (we were at camp Okavango, Xakanaxa camp and Chobe Game Lodge). We saw all the animals and birds we dreamed of seeing in Africa with the exception of the rhino as conservation efforts are currently underway and they are located only in central Botswana at this time. The accommodation was incredible at all of them, the food delicious and the staff exceptional. Such lovely, welcoming people.

Rwanda was an absolute favorite and not just for the amazing gorillas. The country is lush and beautiful, the people warm and welcoming and the Bishops house hotel was incredible.

Susan coordinated all of our bookings and when one of the airlines cancelled our flight within hours of our flying, she was completely on it and got us re-booked and on our way, even arriving an hour earlier than the previously scheduled flight. We would definitely book with Susan and Discover Africa again.

Discover Africa , and Matthys van Aswegen in particular, was a pleasure to work with. Firstly, his patience and understanding is a true fine attributive of his. We started talking about a safari to South Africa in mid-2019. We had both phone calls and email exchanges, and he was always responsive with concrete intelligent answers.

In fact, he sent me many options/packages that were only in Kruger, and others that included Botswana, whatever combination I asked him for, he put together happily. However, by the end of 2019, not knowing about Covid yet, we simply weren’t ready to go on Safari yet. He never put any pressure and was quite understanding.

We then spent most of 2020 emailing back and forth again during the pandemic, with many more questions and options. In Dec 2020, I finally booked a Safari with him to Mala Mala camp in Sabi Sands(one camp , 4 nights, seven game drives), as well as visits to Johannesburg and Cape Town.

We continued to exchange emails during 2021, updating and tweaking the itinerary, when suddenly the Omicron variant hit during Thanksgiving. Since there was MUCH uncertainty with Omicron and our trip was a few weeks away, I couldn’t take chance with my family’s well-being and potentially getting stuck in South Africa.

So I postponed the entire trip for a year to Dec 2022. Matthys, once Again, was only understanding and flexible! He helped me re-book everything to Dec 2022 AND I even rearranged the itinerary completely, and he was accommodating and cooperative. He was also able to transfer all of my pre-payments for Mala Mala, other hotels, flights, to Dec 2022 so that not one penny was lost!

In short, he was amazing ! We just returned a few days ago and the safari at Mala Mala was something me and family will always treasure. We also very much enjoyed Cape Town and the winelands! Discover Africa gets an A+ !

The itinerary options developed and information provided by Matthys allowed us to design a fantastic first time safari for my family. Every detail was considered and we were very well taken care of by the Desert and Delta staff in each lodge.

The range of game viewing options was varied enough to keep our kids engaged the whole time. The staff at the lodges were personable and warm, making us feel like we were their only guests. We would definitely go back and use Discover Africa and Desert and Delta again.

My wife and I spent a while doing research and talked to several groups to find the perfect balance of price, location, and luxury we were looking for on our 3 night safari as part of a honeymoon trip to South Africa.

Megan Warrington and her team understood exactly what we were looking for and found the perfect option for us (Jock Safari Lodge) that we wouldn’t have uncovered otherwise.

Not only that, but Discover Africa was so easy to deal with, very responsive any time we had questions, and provided just the right amount of communication in the lead up to our trip.

Frankly, I didn’t expect to enjoy the safari experience as much as I did. But it was incredible and now I’m trying to figure out a way to do it again. I’ll certainly be contacting Megan and Discover Africa for their guidance next time as well.

We had an amazing two weeks planned in South Africa, Zambia, and Botswana. The lodges and places we stayed at we are all amazing and comfortable. Great staff and planned activities for us. Would highly recommend this tour agency for anyone planning safari adventures.

First rate communications. My agent ( Megan) was attentive to my requests and did her best to meet all my very demanding requirements. Everything that she arranged was excellent – I have one complaint, but it was not the fault of Discover Africa but the Tour Operator themselves.
