Safari, Chimp and Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Arrival at Entebbe airport, where you are met with our local safari guide. Hop into the luxury safari vehicle and depart for Kibale Forest National park, about 5-6 hours away. Depending on your flight time, you might need a pre-night in Entebbe, contact us for options.

Kibale Lodge is an hour’s drive from the historic hill town of Fort Portal, and Kibale Forest, the base for chimpanzee trekking, is a thirty-minute drive from the lodge.

Time to unwind and appreciate the views, before dinner and night.

Early morning wake up call, followed by breakfast and transfer to the forest headquarters. There is a short introduction and briefing before you depart on the chimpanzee trekking.

The perennially popular primate walk provides the chance to observe chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Kanyanchu’s groups are accustomed to human presence – some have been observed for over 25 years – and the chance of locating them is over 90%.

This biologically diverse region also provides shelter to a further 120 mammals, including several primate species, some elephants and antelopes. There are around 370 species of birds, including 23 Albertine Rift endemics. The Nahan’s francolin, Cassin’s spinetail, the blue headed bee-eater and low-land masked apalis, can all be found there.

Return to the lodge for a late lunch and balance of the day at leisure. Dinner and overnight.

Breakfast and depart towards the Queen Elizabeth NP (Northern sector) about 3-4 hours away. Late morning, you will enjoy a private Kazinga Channel cruise.

The Kazinga Channel is a 32-kilometer long channel, rich in wildlife, that links Lakes Edward and George. The boat cruise provides a wonderful opportunity to photograph the many animals that come to cool off at the waters’ edge, including lion, buffalo, hippo, elephant, and leopard.

In the afternoon, explore the park with a game drive. You will arrive late afternoon at your home away from home for the next 3 nights, Kyambura Gorge. Dinner at the lodge.

In the morning, you will join a local scientific researcher on his daily game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park to locate and record the behavior of a lion pride he is studying.

You then continue the game viewing in the afternoon and return to the lodge on time for dinner.

The lodge is located on the edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park with sweeping views of the rolling savanna, the distant mountains of the moon, and the sunken Kyambura Gorge.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is considered to be one of Uganda’s most varied and most beautiful protected areas. Queen, as she is affectionately known, is home to two of Africa’s big cats, the majestic lion and the elusive leopard.

Today is the last day for your game viewing, explore at dawn and dusk. It is when daylight hours are coolest that wildlife is most active. Meals are included at the lodge and you can relax at the pool.

After breakfast, you take the road for about 5-6 hours in order to reach Bwindi Lodge. You arrive on time for a late lunch and have a few hours to yourself to walk about the property, relax by the pool or read a book looking at the magnificent scenery.

Overlooking the primeval Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and with stunning views of the forest canopy across a serene stream, Bwindi Lodge is one of Africa’s unique lodges. The property has dramatic views of the impenetrable forest and is a great place to spot the monkeys and birds hidden in the foliage.

Early dinner is served and enjoy a good night sleep.

Tracking mountain gorillas through the dense African forests is a magical experience. Only eight visitors are allowed per gorilla group each day, and to minimize possible transmission of human diseases, visitors are asked to maintain a distance of 10m from the gorillas. Typically, tracking can take from 3 to 8 hours and requires some agility and fitness; however, all fitness levels can be accommodated and no one should feel deterred from missing this once in a lifetime experience.

Return to the lodge and relax with a complimentary massage. You can add optional afternoon activities if you prefer.

Early morning road transfer to the airstrip for the flight departing at 07h00 and arriving Entebbe at 08h45.

Time at leisure at the airport until you connect for your flight out, or we can book a day room in Entebbe or a day activity, depending on your flight times.
