Classic Southern Africa Train Journey

My son Max and I just returned from an incredible trip to South Africa and Mauritus, and I can’t say enough about how exceptional Susan Veldman was throughout the entire process. From the very beginning she listened to what we wanted and designed an itinerary that was exactly right for us-thoughtful, seamless and perfectly tailored. Every detail was handled flawlessly. The drivers were prompt and professional, the local agents knowledgeable and the hotels outstanding.-each one what we hoped for. There was not a single disappointment on the trip which is rare for a trip of this scale.

What stood out the most was Susans care and attention. She checked in regularly to make sure everything was going smoothly.
I would highly recommend working with Discover Africa for a trip that would be memorable, stress free and tailored to your preferences and budget. Susan is not only incredibly organized but highly invested in making your experience special.

She found the most outstanding places for us to stay with our favorite by far Leopard Hills Lodge in Sabi Sands Reserve, A small intimate lodge with incredible rooms, food and the game drives did not disappoint as we saw the big 5 every day and many leopards while feeling we were only ones in the park. I have been on several safaris in Africa but this was different how alone and private it was.

The other hotel I would not miss was one of the best hotels we ever stayed at in the world in Johannesburg, The Residence Hotel which was amazing and since our flight was cancelled due to a Lufthansa strike we had to stay an extra night which was also a highlight of our trip and we would go back to Johannesburg to stay there again.

The tour was beyond my expectations. Every part of our holiday was carefully planned with amazing destinations.

We had an amazing time visiting Namibia and South Africa. Our 15 day journey was packed with lots of adventure. Everything to accommodations, transportation by ground and air, excursions, dinner and lunches. Our tour guide/ driver Nico was so awesome. He spent 9 days with us and was amazing. Not to forget Megan who helped put our custom package together. Thank you for everything Megan and Nico did for us.

I hope one day to visit another place in Africa one day. I will definitely use this company again!!!

For over 2 years my wife and I worked with Megan at Discover Africa to assemble our dream safari itinerary. After some back and forth in 2019 we quickly realized that our dream trip was out of our budget so we held off for a year to make sure we could afford to take the exact trip we wanted. Megan was patient, checking in periodically, and was immediately responsive when we reinitiated the discussion in 2020. She provided recommendations to us from her personal experience and answered any and all questions we had. Once booked, payment was simple with an initial deposit and scheduled date for when payment would be due.

Then COVID hit. Throughout 2020 Megan continually checked in and provided the most updated information she could for the various countries we’d be visiting. Eventually, we found out that due to COVID restrictions our October 2020 trip would have to be rescheduled. Within what felt like an instant, Megan already had the trip we originally designed rebooked and confirmed for 2021. Throughout 2021 we kept in touch and as the trip drew near Megan took charge on identify testing requirements and coordinating the arrangement of tests for us.

During the actual trip, everything was seamless as Megan had arranged. The places she found for us were absolutely perfect for what we wanted. We felt completely prepared for what to expect, what to bring with us, local customs, etc. She provided her personal contact information in the event that we encountered an issue, which we did not. We’ve never been so sad for a trip to end! My wife and I both agreed that this trip felt more like a vacation than any other trip we’ve taken, and we owe it all to Megan and the Discover Africa team for their arrangements and assistance in booking and coordinating our dream safari.

I’m not quite sure where to begin when describing my trip to South Africa. It started with impeccable service with our guide/operator Antoinette. She made the process easy and understood that our trip was truly in her hands (we’ve never had a safari holiday).

To begin, everywhere we stayed was impeccably clean, safe, but also just truly enjoyable and fun. The animals we saw we’re incredible. Our guides were not only knowledgeable, but extremely kind. I can’t emphasize the service and generosity we felt at every spot. It was exactly what we dreamed of. Animals at every turn. Delicious food and drink.

An experience of a lifetime that I can’t wait to repeat. This was worth every penny and more.

I am giving below my feedback about all aspect of the trip from 24th May to 5th June, 2016.

a) Accommodation at Johannesburg, Victoria Falls, Skukuza Rest Camp, Kruger National Park and Cape Town was well located with comfortable rooms as per our requirements.

b) Transfers and Tours at all places was on time and we did have not much of a problem.

c) Flights booked for various places were on time and we were able to maintain our schedule.

d) Two Dinner arrangements at Johannesburg and Cape Town was satisfactory. I have only following comments which if amended will help other travelers.

1) Guide at Victoria Falls was not very helpful. We had to spend some funds to cross the Bridge by walk. I am not sure why this was not included.

2) Kruger National Park – Safari timing during Morning and evening appears to be on fixed irrespective of seasonal variation. This resulted lots of time in movement in darkness which was a waste. This can be easily rectified if Kruger National Park changes Safari timings as per Sun rise and Sun set.

3) Wine Tour at Cape Town should have been included. You ultimately accommodated us at an extra cost. I once again like to convey my sincere gratitude and thanks to you and Discover Africa for arranging this wonderful trip for eight Senior Citizens from India and UK having ages 70+.

I shall definitely recommend Discover Africa and particularly you whenever any of my family and friends plans trip to South Africa and nearby countries.
