May through to July offer an amazing water-filled wilderness. ‘Shoebill Treks’ during this time of the year are most commonly pursued on canoes and as you are poled about the watery pans and channels, you can expect some phenomenal birding in addition to the Shoebill. Part of the trek may proceed on foot depending on where the Shoebills are so come ready for an adventure.

As Shoebill’s are breeding during this time of year, sightings of these iconic birds are more common.

Enjoy game drives and witness 50 000 black lechwe spread out before you across the flat Bangweulu plains – it’s quite incredible. Sitting in amongst the herds at sunset as they make their way to the swamps off the plains with a G & T in hand is something very special.

A walking safari in the Bangweulu wetlands is more relaxed than the usual safari walk as there is very little big game that could be a threat. Walks out onto the plains and along the edge of the water provide great birding opportunities and sightings of the 50000 endemic black lechwe that reside in the reserve.
