Is This Trip for Me?
Begin your journey in northern Tanzania at the pristine Ngorongoro Crater, an extinct volcano that collapsed millions of years ago, creating one of the world’s biggest calderas. As a result of this natural phenomenon, the fertile rich soils have attracted incredible amounts of wildlife and birds, making this important ecosystem and surrounds an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The transition between mountainous landscapes, forests and savannah plains is abrupt in Ngorongoro, ensuring plenty of pleasant surprises throughout your trip. Black rhino abound in Ngorongoro, as well as almost all of Africa’s plains mammals. Expect to see tusked elephants, fancy flamingos and black-maned lions on this leg of your journey.
Your next stop is in the northern Serengeti, the most epic turn in the Great Migration’s cycle. Together with the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya, this area of the world is the prime location to witness the wildebeest, zebra and gazelles as they race to cross the Mara river in a show of courage, bravery and sheer instinct. This huge movement of plains mammals attract top predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs, as well as wild dogs and trumpeting elephants. It’s an animal bonanza and you get a front row seat.
Equally as important on your trip is the chance to meet the guardians of Tanzania and Kenya; the Maasai people. Expect a warm and hospitible welcome from the Maasai and get to know their distinct culture and first-hand accounts of life in the African wilderness.
