A Safari in South and North Luangwa

Day 1-4

South Luangwa National Park

Staying at Tafika Camp

Your safari starts at Lusaka Airport. On your arrival, connect with the scheduled charter flight to Mfuwe and road transfer to the lodge that will be your home base for the next 4x nights.

Tafika Camp is situated on the banks of the Luangwa River, North of the Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa National Park. The remote location of Tafika makes it ideal for those who enjoy the serenity of the bush. Nestled in the shade of giant leadwood trees, the camp has a panorama of the river and its wildlife.

You can enjoy walking safaris, unique cycling trails and game drives (day and night), during which the abundance of diverse game populations in the Nsefu sector ensure an unforgettable safari. There is a strong, diverse population of big game in the Luangwa River valley. Elephant and Cape buffalo sightings are common as they like to swim between the mosaic of islands on the river. Lions, spotted hyenas, wild dogs and leopards are the main predators in the areas. Leopards feel especially at home in this area because of the many large trees, in which this slightly elusive cat likes to hide. Not forgetting the Thornicroft’s giraffes and Cookson’s wildebeest, which are found only in this region.

Day 5-7

North Luangwa National Park

Staying at Mwaleshi Camp

Today, travel to the North of Luangwa with a flight to your new camp. Mwaleshi, located in the vast wilderness of North Luangwa National Park, is built within a scenic bend of the Mwaleshi River, the camp is a truly special and remarkable place. There are few roads in this remote area and the majority of activities consist of morning and afternoon walks, following existing animal trails through pristine savannah.

All senses become attuned to the surrounding bush as guests experience the magical diversity of the area. Game is prolific and the North Luangwa National Park is the only place one is likely to glimpse black rhino, which, following their extinction in Zambia in the 1980s, were successfully re-introduced here.

Mwaleshi Camp is situated within the rhino sanctuary, improving chances of sighting this iconic species. A Luangwa Valley endemic, Cookson’s wildebeest, are abundant in the Mwaleshi area as are spotted hyenas.

Day 8

End Of Itinerary

Your last day on safari, enjoy a hearty breakfast at the lodge before the road transfer to the airstrip and the return flight to Lusaka (could be via Mfuwe, depending on schedule).

Time at leisure at the airport until your own flight out or we can arrange for a post safari stay in Livingstone, or extend your safari with a stay in the Lower Zambezi or hop for a few beach days in Malawi.
