Is the Gorongosa Chicari Camp for Me?
Chicari Camp is a seasonal, low-environmental-impact safari camp set beside a year-round pan in Gorongosa National Park. Surrounded by fever trees and woodland, this newly built camp offers a contemporary experience in one of Africa’s most dynamic ecosystems. With just ten canvas tents, including two unique Treehide Tents, Chicari remains intimate and well integrated into its natural surroundings.
Raised walkways link the tents to a central lounge and dining area, where you can relax with a book or enjoy views of wildlife drawn to the water. The two treehide tents share a spacious deck and are ideal for couples or families travelling together. The camp runs fully off-grid and is packed away at the end of each season, leaving no trace behind.
Game drives and walking safaris set out from camp daily, guided by expert guides with deep local knowledge. In season, boating on the Urema floodplain offers a different view of the park. Wildlife here is abundant, and the ever-changing pan brings in a remarkable variety of birds, particularly during the wetter months.
Chicari Camp is a strong fit for couples, families, and wildlife enthusiasts seeking a quiet, close-to-nature experience with meaningful conservation.
