This safari is a great way to experience the scenery and wildlife of Northern Tanzania. We have included 3 nights at a luxury estate in the Manyara area where you will enjoy walks, treetop experience and a game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater, all this with your private vehicle and guide.
Then fly to a remote section of the Serengeti, on the Lamai wedge, for an exclusive game drive and walking experience, customized for you, with your private vehicle and guide. Depending on the time of the year, you can also view the Great Migration, which is usually in the Lamai area between August and October.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport and meet with our local safari guide. You will have a private safari vehicle with an open top, to allow for the best game viewing experience. Travel to nearby Karatu (about 2.5 hours drive), depending on your arrival time you might require a pre-night in Arusha.
Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater lies Gibb’s Farm. Founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation, this wonderful property is the ideal base for visiting the surrounding area, and embrace the East African hospitality, the land and heritage. The large gardens are perfect for stretching your legs after a day of game viewing, listening to the birds and enjoying a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Arrive at Gibb's on time for lunch and experience a walk to the elephant cave in the afternoon. Leave on-foot directly from your cottage on this two-hour walking safari through the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Discover towering waterfalls and the incredible “elephant caves”, created by elephants digging through dense rock with their tusks to ingest the vitamin-rich soil. Back at the lodge on time for the sunset, dinner and night.

After breakfast, transfer to nearby Lake Manyara National Park for a game drive. This safari paradise offers dense bush, open plains, a vast lake, and natural watering holes – all a safe haven for a rich array of wildlife.
You will get the chance to encounter large troops of baboons, many birds and maybe some of the resident lions, known to spend a lot of times in the trees. Enjoy a picnic style lunch and exit the park. On the way back, stretch your legs with a Treetop experience that will take you on a sky-high adventure through the beautiful forest. Walk among the treetops and experience untouched nature and wildlife from a unique perspective. This 370m airwalk starts with a short board-walk that gradually rises from ground level up through the canopy of the forest. You walk over a series of suspension bridges with thick netting on the sides, and reach a height of 18m off the ground. Each of the bridges end on a viewing deck situated around tree trunks. These treetop platforms are perfect places to stop and enjoy life in the canopy amongst butterflies, monkeys and birds.
Back at Gibb's by late afternoon and spend some time at leisure before dinner and night.

Early wake up call and depart for your game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. You will have a packed breakfast to enjoy en-route as your guide drives up though the wonderful Ngorongoro Highlands and a picnic style lunch to enjoy on the crater floor.
Today is all about the animals as the vast, volcanic Ngorongoro Crater is home to the “big 5” (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino). A gradual descent into the Ngorongoro Crater through a lush highland forest, provides countless opportunities to spot magnificent birdlife among various tree species. Once on the grassy crater floor, you may encounter a wide range of grazing herbivores, as well as predators drawn to the plentiful supply of prey.
After lunch, exit the Crater and return to Gibb's where you can relax before dinner and night.

Breakfast and transfer to the airstrip; it is time to say goodbye to your guide and fly to the Serengeti.
On arrival at Lamai airstrip, meet with your tour guide and transfer to camp via a meandering drive. Your 3 night stay is totally customized as per what you wish to experience. Your guide will drive you to the best possible area to encounter the game, and will take you walking away from the vehicles. And if you travel during August-October, you will have a good chance to view the Great Migration and maybe some river crossings, that typically happen in this area at this time of the year (weather and nature dependent).
The open plains of the Lamai Wedge are incredibly beautiful and abundant in game. The landscape is reminiscent of scenes from Out of Africa, and there is plenty of freedom to roam and explore. The camp is situated opposite Crossing Point 4, midway among all crossing points along the river – and is perfectly positioned to spectate the wildebeest river crossings in season. Away from the river, this area of rolling savannah, boulder-strewn hillsides and fig-tree groves, is littered with inconceivably enormous herds of wildebeest, topi and zebra – as well as all the predators that gorge on this movable feast. Cheetah, lion and elephant especially make for fantastic sightings.
This is your time to completely disconnect, there is no wi-fi at camp, and appreciate the nature around you, listen to the birds, and watch the night sly filled with thousands of bright stars.

A walking safari is an exciting activity in which participants go on slow-paced, guided treks through the bush with the goal of discovering different wildlife species.
Because of the slower tempo and lower angle of being on foot, minor elements that are neglected on game drives become more evident.
No, but you would need an experienced safari guide for your walk. It is not recommended to walk out on your own on a walking safari in Africa.
Yes, all guides have intensive wilderness and safety training, and they are equipped wherever a potential threat may exist.
The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania.
Safari/bucket showers are common in mobile or tented camps where there is no permanent plumbing. They are an effective yet environmentally friendly way to shower where water is at a premium and provide plenty of hot water to wash comfortably.
Generally, there is an en-suite private shower stall within your tent with a “rainfall” style shower head at which you can control the water flow. Outside the tent, there is a large waterproof bag or bucket which is filled with about 10 to 15 litres (5 US gallons) of hot water before being raised with a pully/rope system to either connect to the shower pipe or fill a cistern.
The water is delivered at the ideal temperature so it is best to use it as soon as it arrives. Staff typically fill the showers at a pre-arranged time of day, or you simply need to give them a few minutes notice so they can get it ready.
Safari lodges have guest rooms similar to a hotel with en-suite bathrooms. They are comfortably furnished with facilities normally associated with a hotel rooms, except your rooms are normally set in beautiful wilderness settings, with nature and wildlife around.
Tented lodges have rooms which are tents on a platform and with a roof and also have en-suite facilities with showers, flush toilets and hot water. Basically all the amenities of a hotel room, except canvas walls and roof.
The boutique lodges and camps can be very stylish and smart in terms of design and decor, often with very spacious rooms and even going so far in some cases as having plunge pools for each room.
Eco-camps and smaller tented camps have insect-proof tents with en-suite facilities including a safari shower and flush toilet. They give a more authentic safari experience but the tents are comfortably furnished with proper beds and you don’t need to bring your own sleeping bag! The emphasis is usually on having excellent guides and great wildlife viewing away from the crowds. Guests often eat together and people travelling alone usually say that they found the atmosphere friendly and enjoyed meeting other like-minded travellers around the campfire in the evening or at dinner.
The Adventure Camps are a budget option with guests bringing their own sleeping bags and towels. Accommodation is in small dome tented with a mattress on the floor. Each tent has its own nearby cubicle with a flush toilet, safari shower, and wash basin. The Adventure Camps are suitable only for those who don’t mind “real camping” and can put with some degree of “roughing it”. Apart from the accommodation in simple dome tents, the meals and the guiding are the same standards as the higher quality camps and game drives are in 4x4 safari vehicles. For those on a limited budget, the Adventure Camps are a good alternative to the big tourist lodges and minibus tours for those for whom the safari experience is more important than hotel accommodation.
The official language in Tanzania is Swahili but there are hundreds of other local dialects.
English is the second official language and the country's commercial language. It is also the main teaching language used for all higher education institutions.
You will find that the majority of the people that you come in contact with are fluent in English and have a surprisingly good command of the language.
June to August during the dry season, is the best time to visit Saanane Island National Park. This season is great for game drives, picnics as well as rock hiking.
Tanzania is a good birding destination - estimated with 800 species are resident and nearly 200 are regular migrant. However, Migrants are present from November to April.
June to October and January to February. The wildebeest migration reaches the Masai Mara in July and remains until October - when they move back to the Serengeti in Tanzania. However, wildlife is easier to spot since the animals gather around the water source as well as on the rivers. Newborn animals can also be seen.
For optimal wildlife viewing opportunities, Tanzania is best visited during the dry season months of June - October. However, if you'd like to see the wildebeest migration, a visit during the months of January and February puts you in the middle of the calving season, a period where the herds give birth to their newborn calves.
