Life on safari has a rhythm of its own, largely dictated by the animal's movements. Generally, the most rewarding times for game viewing is in the cooler early mornings and also late in the afternoons when the animals are most active.
A typical day on safari will vary depending on the camp you’re staying at, but will include early morning and late afternoon game drives, with time during the hottest part of the day to relax in camp.
The best time to visit Marakele National Park is from May to September. Since animals tend to seek for reliable waterholes and stay close by during the dry winter months.
However, this is the best time for wildlife viewing. Marakele is a great year-round destination. During May and September, there is little rain and the skies are sunny and bright.
Augrabies Falls National Park is open throughout the year, but the best time to visit is between April and September. When the popular three-day Klipspringer Trail is open.
However, the waterfall is particularly impressive when in flood - usually in February to April.
You will be able to do self-guided game drives or guided night drives with park officials, as well as expect to sight springbok, gemsbok, kudu, African wild cat, spotted genet, giraffe, leopards and birds such as Black eagles.
You may visit Wolhuterskop Game and Nature Reserve all year around - winter (during the months of June and August) are chilly, and summer (during the months of November and January) are hot. Enjoy horse rides, mountain bike and game drive.
The best time to visit Royal Natal National Park is during the summer rainfall season of March to April.
Durban might be a sleepy city, but because of its great all year weather it's also a leading events city for both music, culture and sport.
The best time to visit the Phinda Private Game Reserve is during the dry winter months of May to September. These months provide excellent game viewing opportunities as the wildlife congregates around water sources.
The dry winter months of May to September are the best months to visit the Kapama Game Reserve. Game viewing is excellent during this period as the flora will thin out. The wildlife will also gather around water sources such as waterholes, making them very easy to find.
It's important to take activities into account instead of weather when planning a South African holiday. If you're planning on going on safari, it's best to visit during the dry winter months of May to October. Game viewing is outstanding during this period as the foliage is much less and wildlife will congregate around waterholes in order to stay hydrated. If you want to spend some time relaxing on one of South Africa's sun-kissed beaches, then a visit during the hot summer months of November to March is ideal.
Although some of the game parks have become quite overrun with tourists during certain times of the year, there are still many very remote and untouched areas to view games in Africa two examples of this are in Northern Mozambique and Uganda.
