Huge crossing are now happening at point no 4 from the North to the Southern Serengeti!

The best area to encounter the herds in October is in the Northern Serengeti at the Kogatende or the Lamai Wedge if you are looking to catch some good river crossings. You should not anticipate their move to the south in your choice of camp, as river crossings are still happening and should not be missed if you are in the Serengeti at this time of the year.

The herds are still moving around the Kogathende area in search of green pastures while some are migrating at Nyamalumbwa Hills. 

Safari guide John Letara who left Kogatende yesterday morning reported that most of the herds have left the northern Serengeti and they are heading towards the Kirawira area and the woodlands of the Serengeti. 

Nade witnessed thousands of wildebeest and zebra in the Masai Mara. 

Between August and October, good game-viewing becomes possible throughout the whole Masai Mara area as the millions of wildebeest and zebra “mow” the grass down, making it palatable even in the normally long grass areas.

October is a good time to see the wildebeest herds move back into the Serengeti. As with August and September, the herds are yet again in a pretty identical position in the northern Serengeti areas of Kogatende and Lamai, and in the Masai Mara.

For the last two weeks, there have been light rains that are pushing the herds south. However, this takes a long time as there are so many of them! The chances are even if you are visiting the north in late October, that a good few of the herds will still be lingering in the north.

Fiona Chen was fortunate to encounter the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Central Serengeti during her stay in the Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp.

Lemala Ewanjan is an authentic intimate tented camp set in a secluded part of the game-rich Seronera Valley in Central Serengeti. This wonderful tented camp offers spectacular views and is easily accessible to the area's other major game-viewing spots.

Fiona Chen also took advantage of the fantastic hot-air balloon and captured the herds from the birds year. 

Safari guide Hasnain Sajan captured the Great Migration heading towards Fort Ikoma and the Lobo Valley.

The wildlife spectacle of the Wildebeest Migration thunders through Lobo twice a year, including July and August (during the northward migration) and September through November (during the southward migration). During this time visitors can witness thousands of wildebeest and zebra attract hungry predators and scavenging vultures.

He spent a few days with the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti. He was fortunate to witness thousands of wildebeest crossing the Mara River for hours. Before momentum kicked in, they seemed to be confused about which side of the river they wanted to be on - A group would go across, wait a few minutes then go back, and so on. That led to traffic jams with the wildebeest going both ways at the same time.

Crossings at point No 3 continue!

The Great Wildebeest Migration was seen crossing point No 3 from Northern to Southern Serengeti. 

Safari guide Frank Gabriel captured a large herd of the wildebeest crossing point number 3 from Northern to Southern Serengeti.

Lemala Mara is set under shady trees in the heart of the Northern Serengeti's best game viewing area, giving you front-row seats as the wildebeest and zebra herds make their way to the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Mega crossings are still happening on both sides of the border!
