Day 1 - Windhoek - Kalahari Desert
Day 1 sees you venture into the largest sand mass on earth… the Kalahari Desert. With its deep red sand dunes and endless grass plains dappled with acacias and shrubs, the stretching landscape sees the most beautiful sunsets sink behind its horizon. Revel in the natural beauty.
Overnight at Kalahari Anib Lodge (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Day 2 - Kalahari Desert - Fish River Canyon
Today, you travel south into Fish River Canyon through expansive rocky plains, visiting a unique quiver tree forest. The route takes you past huge dolerite boulders, and their peculiar stacking, lending to the mysterious appeal of the desert atmosphere. Continuing on your scenic journey of gaping canyons and the unusual beauty of desolation with smooth patterns etches into the dunes by the wind.
Overnight at Cañon Village (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Day 3 - Fish River Canyon - Namib Desert - Lüderitz
The morning starts on the edge of the Fish River Canyon, where you gaze into this magnificent geological phenomenon, with its stretching plateau which plunges in a vertigo rocking, sheer cliff face drop of five hundred and fifty metres. This is the second largest canyon on earth, after USA’s Grand Canyon. After you’ve dragged your eyes away from the view, you travel down the Great Escarpment and into the stretched plains of the Namib Desert. Further along your journey, follow the rippling dunes into the Prohibited Diamond Area. Here you visit Diaz’ Cross before doing a short tour through the harbour town of Lüderitz and check into your hotel.
Overnight at Protea Hotel Zum Sperrgebiet (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Day 4 - Lüderitz - Kolmanskop - Sossusvlei
This morning a trip to the ghost town of Kolmanskop is on the cards. Once a thriving town of opulence and decadence because of the 1900’s diamond rush, now a spooky town buried in sand. After wriggling free of your shivers, you will travel north to your lodge in the Namib Desert, situated in close vicinity to the shimmering salt and clay pan destination of Sossusvlei.
Overnight at Hammerstein Lodge (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Day 5 - Namib Desert
Today demands an early start. The first rays of sunrise illuminate the red and orange dunes, making for the most awesome Kodak moment. Next on the agenda, is a visit to the Sesriem Canyon; a life sustaining natural phenomenon in the heart of the Namib Desert.
Overnight at Namib Desert Lodge (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Day 6 - Namib Desert - Swakopmund - Walvis Bay
After breakfast your sites are set on travelling to the rolling hills of the Kuiseb Moon Valley, towards the Atlantic Ocean. In Walvis Bay, a visit to the shallow lagoon is lined up, seeing as it is one of the most important wetland areas on the African continent. With over 80% of the African flamingo population feeding in this lagoon, its water is dappled with clusters of flamingos. Stopping at Bird island, we relive the story of a man who saw an opportunity in mining guano in the early 1900’s. Having arrived in the coastal town of Swakopmund, spend the rest of the day discovering its corners.
Overnight at Schweizerhaus Hotel (Twin room) or similar/alternative hotel.
Meals included: Breakfast.
Day 7 - Swakopmund - Windhoek
Enjoy a morning of leisure in Swakopmund further exploring unchartered ground. Early afternoon it’s time to bid farewell to the land of canyons and deserts as you travel back to Windhoek, back to your hotel or to the airport for an outward flight. With a memory card full of photos and a newly acquired fondness for Namibia, the trip comes to an end.
(Twin room) Meals included: Breakfast.
