Highlights & Places in Shamwari Game Reserve

Shamwari Game Reserve is a private Big Five reserve that is committed to conservation efforts. Along with its own anti-poaching unit, the reserve has two separate wildlife rescue centres, to the north and south of the reserve respectively. These centres form part of the reserve’s Born Free programme that aims to address the dangers faced by wildlife in captivity. It is these efforts that have garnered international awards and praise.

The wide range of eco-systems throughout the reserve is a haven for a range of wildlife and birdlife, including the famous Big Five (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo).

Situated between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, Shamwari Game Reserve is one of the leading game reserves in the Eastern Cape, with no malaria risks to be found.
