The Quirimbas Archipelago stretches for 100 kilometres along the Mozambique coast. The region is remote and less frequented.
Of the 32 islands that make up the Quirimbas, only a handful is inhabited. Islands to visit include Matemo Island, Medjumbe Island, Vamizi Island and Ibo Island.
Islands are rugged and fringed with white sand. An exotic selection of tropical trees, bushes and flowers fill the interior. All islands bursts at the seams with culture and tradition.

When to Go
Mozambique has a tropical climate with average temperatures of around 30°C. The best time to visit the Quirimbas Archipelago is in the winter months, between May and September. Rainfall and temperatures are at their lowest during these months.
Getting There & Getting Around
Getting To Quirimbas Archipelago
The easiest route is to fly to Dar es Salaam, on Tanzania's coast, with British Airways. Then take a connecting flight with Air Mozambique from Dar to Pemba.
Alternatively, you can fly to Pemba via Johannesburg.
From Pemba, most of the lodges can generally be reached by a short hop by light aircraft.
Getting Around Quirimbas Archipelago
For travelling between the islands there are light aircrafts, helicopters, boats and kayaks. Once on the island it is best to get around on foot.
Islands are small and very safe. On foot is the best way to explore the wonders of these charming islands.

There are no ATMs on the islands. However, all main National Banks are present in Pemba as well as ATM machines.Forex/Money:
There are no Forex exchange services on the islands. However you can exchange your currency at one of the National Banks in Pemba. Exchange your currency for Mozambique Metical, Dollars, Euros, Pounds or South African Rands.Credit/Debit cards:
Credit cards aren't always accepted. Most Quirimbas lodges have credit and debit card facilities.Internet availability:
Internet access is available in Mozambique, but is limited to the major cities. However the private resorts on the islands have access to the internet.Drinking water:
Travellers are advised to boil the tap water before drinking it, or to buy mineral water. Tap water can safely be used for showering and brushing your teeth. All resorts provide guests with bottled water.Hospitals & Medical:
There are hospitals and clinics in Pemba. The main hospital is Mocimboa da Praia. Advance payment is required either in meticais, rands, dollars or Visa card. Prior to arrival, you are required to have had the yellow fever vaccine. You are required to take malaria preventions. -
