Namutoni Camp Overview

As a prominent rest stop within Etosha National Park, Namutoni Camp offers the perfect base from which to explore the park. Etosha National Park lies within the Etosha Pans, providing a lush contrast from the deserts and dry landscapes that make up much of Namibia. These conditions create a haven for a diversity of wildlife and birdlife. Some of the species of game to be seen at Etosha include zebra, springbok, endangered black rhinoceros, lion, elephant and large numbers of antelope. Birdlife is equally rich, with great crested grebe, black-necked grebe, lesser flamingo, greater flamingo, black-faced babbler, Sabota Lark, spike-heeled lark, pink-billed lark, wattled crane and grey crowned crane to name but a few.

Scenery spans across diverse vegetated areas. The park consists mostly of arid savanna, shrub and thorn scrub in the west, with tree savanna and broadleaved woodland in the east. Acacia woodland is found throughout the park, with Mopane woodland in the central area and Combretum woodland in the east.

Namutoni Camp has two main seasons – a dry season and a wet season. The dry, cooler season runs from May to September, with excellent game viewing. The hot rainy season runs from November to March, offering the best bird watching.

Namutoni Camp is situated within Etosha National Park, which is approximately six hours from Windhoek by road. International travellers can enter Namibia via Windhoek International Airport and transfer to the camp.

ATMs/Currency/Money: there are not much banking facilities at Namutoni Camp, so be prepared and withdraw cash before arriving.

Internet Availability: some lodges may have internet access.

Drinking Water: bottled water is available at the restaurant, lodges and shop within Namutoni.

Hospitals & Medical: there are basic first aid facilities at the camp, with hospitals in Windhoek.

Visa Requirements: most visitors do not require a visa to enter Namibia.
