Maun

Why Visit Maun?

Maun is the tourism capital of Botswana, serving as the gateway to the African wilderness it’s surrounded by. Still considered a ‘village’, Maun is a jumble of both modern buildings and native huts. The appeal of the area is that this eclectic village hub spreads into the veins of the Okavango Delta waterway, sandy Kalahari Desert and Makgadikgadi Pans. Nature walks, river cruises, 4x4 trails and safari flights can be taken from Maun to explore Botswana’s major attractions.

  • Maun Overview

Set in a rural atmosphere, Maun has a range of modern stores and banks that cater for your travel needs, as well as a string of companies to help you make your way into the surrounding regions.

Historical and curio haven, inside the Nhabe Museum you can see exhibitions of photography, basket-weaving and art as well as baskets, screen-printing, paintings and pottery made by local artists which are on sale.

The Maun Festival is a two day celebration, in April, of art, music and culture, kicking off day one with a jovial parade through the streets of the village.

The Maun Game Reserve is a small stretch of woodland, where rare red lechwe and antelope can be seen grazing. Take a leisurely ‘booze cruise’ down the river or opt for a bird’s eye view with a plane or helicopter trip over Maun and its diverse surrounds.

    Highlights & Places in Maun
