Africa is proud to celebrate World Tourism Day (WTD) on 27 September. Being one of the most diverse countries in the world, Africa completely relates to this year's WTD theme, "Tourism - Linking cultures". What better day to overcome our past than reaching out to those that don't have the same background as you do?
The principle of World Tourism Day is to show that tourism is essential to the worldwide population and to display how it concerns the cultural, social, economic and political values worldwide (Altius Directory). Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were adopted. The adoption of these Statutes is considered a milestone in global tourism.
According to the United Nation's website, the theme, "Tourism -Linking cultures" represents an opportunity to address how tourism can help build tolerance and understanding worldwide by serving as a catalyst for communication and exchange between the different cultures of the world .
Africa sure represents an array of different cultures and backgrounds. Discover Africa asked both travellers and citizens about their thoughts on this beautiful country.
Although the interviewees are from completely different cultures, they certainly agree on one thing - that Africa is awesome.
